Families anxious over safety of Indians kidnapped in Mali

Posted on July 9, 2025

Three Indian nationals working at a cement factory in Mali were abducted by armed assailants last Tuesday, leaving their families in India without updates about their safety. The kidnapping coincided with coordinated jihadist attacks across Mali, causing panic among Indian expatriates in Africa. Families in Odisha and Telangana express deep distress, with one victim’s mother last speaking to her son days before the abduction. India’s foreign ministry has urged citizens in Mali to exercise extreme caution while coordinating with Malian authorities for the men’s release. The Diamond Cement Factory, operated by an Indian conglomerate, has yet to issue any public statement about the incident.
