Radioactive wasp nest found at old US nuclear weapons site

Radioactive wasp nest found at old US nuclear weapons sitennA radioactive wasp nest with radiation levels ten times above regulatory limits was discovered at the Savannah River Site in South Carolina, a former US nuclear weapons production facility. Workers found the nest on July 3 during routine radiation checks near tanks storing liquid nuclear waste. Officials confirmed the contamination resulted from legacy radioactive residue from Cold War-era bomb production, not from any current leaks. While the nest itself showed dangerous radiation levels, any wasps inhabiting it would have carried significantly lower contamination. The nest was safely removed and disposed of as radioactive waste, with no impact to workers or the public reported.
