After Diddy: Why hip-hop is still struggling to have its own ‘MeToo’ moment

Posted on July 9, 2025

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was recently found guilty of sex trafficking charges but acquitted of racketeering, exposing patterns of abuse in hip-hop. Despite these revelations, the industry has failed to undergo a systemic reckoning like Hollywood’s #MeToo movement. Experts attribute this to hip-hop’s roots as a voice for racial justice, creating reluctance to address internal misconduct. Without policy changes and cultural shifts, accountability remains elusive for powerful figures in the genre.
